To help slow down the spread of COVID-19, the Indonesian government has made it mandatory to wear cloth masks. Surgical and N95 masks are prioritized for health care workers and those who are sick.
Check out this easy tutorial we made with Aakar Studios below!
We also made an even simpler tutorial without any sewing needed!
Materials & Equipment:
Cotton fabric/old shirt
Wide elastic band (0.6cm wide, 85cm long). You can use bands of an old swim suit
Straight pins
Sewing needle and thread
Iron & ironing board
Scissors
Steps:
Cut the fabric into a rectangle (47 x 24cm)
Fold both of the short edges by 1cm, press with iron
Fold both edges to meet in the middle and overlap by ~1cm, press with iron
Pin overlap at the ends with you straight pins
Flip over and fold 2 pleats, press with iron
Flip over to check that everything's okay in the other side of the mask
Flip over once more, this side is now called the 'face side'
Fold short edges inwards on the 'face side' by 1.2cm each
Pin the folds and pleats with your straight pins (to keep the folds in place)
Hand sew the fold with small stitches, take out all straight pins
Prepare the elastic band
Put a straight pin through one end of the elastic band (to help guide you)
Put the elastic band through the holes on each side, take pin out
All done! You can put a facial tissue inside the pocket of your mask (this will act as a replaceable filter)
